STAFF WECOMES DR. RICHARD U. UTUBAKU AS PROVOST OF THE COLLEGE

History was made on Monday, March 7, 2022 as Dr. Richard Ugbaha Utubaku resumes work as the first alumnus of the College to assume office as the Provost of Federal College of Education, Obudu. He rose through the ranks to become a Chief Lecturer of the Institution in 2013.

It has to be recalled that the Unions in the College had all agitated for the appointment of a Provost from within the system. As a result, the entire staff of the College were overwhelmed with joy when the news of the appointment of Dr. Utubaku reached the College. That was why he was given a triumphant entry into the College on his first day at work as Provost.

By 9. 00 am on the day of his resumption, a large number of Staff had already gathered at the College main gate to await the arrival of the new Chief Executive Officer of the Institution. The crowd remained expectant until about 9.30 am when Dr. Utubaku arrived with his entourage. As he was sighted, with one voice and in unison, the jubilant crowed intoned the solidarity song and continued to chant that song of unity as they marched and led the new Provost to the College Administrative Block.

At this time, the former Acting Provost Alhaji Ladan Chado took his time to thank God for the gift of a substantive Provost. He expressed joy and thanked everyone for coming out to show solidarity with the provost. In the same vein, Dr. Nick Akan who is the Chairman of the Chief Lecturers Forum as well as a member of the 7th Governing Council of the College described the appointment of Dr. Utubaku as prayer answered.

The Chairmen of the Unions in the College- COEASU, SSUCOEN and NASU made passionate and emotional speeches of appreciation and formally welcomed the new provost. One common denominator in their remarks was their visible excitement at the appointment of an internal Provost. They wished Dr. Utubaku well and prayed that he should have a successful tenure.

Making a brief remark, Dr. Utubaku expressed joy about the rousing solidarity shown him as he assumes his new office. He thanked everyone who had contributed in one way or the other towards the realisation of the dream. While also thanking everyone that came out to receive and welcome him to the College, he assured the overwhelming crowd that he will still meet with the College congregation and urged everyone to put their hands on the deck in order to move the College forward. Finally, the Registrar, Mrs. Grace A. Undie in her vote thanks eulogised the outgoing Acting Provost, Alhaji Ladan Chado for his steadfastness and dedication to the course of uplifting and re-positioning the College in the last eighteen months while he served as Chief Executive Officer of the College. She equally appreciated everyone that came out at very short notice to welcome the new provost.

Present at the brief ceremony were other principal Officers of the College Mr. David A. Adung (College Liberian) and Mr. Joseph E. Ogar (Bursar). Members of Management, Directors, Staff and Students of the College also graced the occasion.
